Samarium Cobalt Magnets
Samarium Cobalt (SmCo) Magnets for High Temperature Applications
Samarium Cobalt (SmCo) magnets are strong permanent magnets with exceptional magnetic properties. They offer excellent temperature stability and a high resistance to corrosion or demagnetization. Part of the rare-earth magnet family, SmCo magnets are ideal for applications involving high or very low temperatures, where magnetic stability is critical, space is a limiting factor and high magnetic strength is required.
Please note that special safety precautions should be taken when handling & packaging this material.
We carry a large inventory of SmCo Disc Magnets, not all of which are shown on this website. Contact us today or send us a special request and let us know what you are looking for.

SmCo magnets offer excellent temperature and thermal stability, their magnetic properties stay within a very narrow range up to about 300° C (570° F). They exhibit excellent corrosion resistance and do not require any surface treatments. In addition, sintered samarium cobalt magnets offer very high resistance to demagnetization.
Available Grades for Samarium Cobalt Magnets
SmCo magnets are available in a number of different grades that span a wide range of properties and application requirements. We currently stock SmCo disc magnets in grades 18 and 26, not all of which are on this website. Contact us today or send us a special request and let us know what you are looking for.
Temperature Considerations for SmCo Magnets
Maximum operating temperatures for Samarium Cobalt magnets are between 250 and 550 °C; Curie temperatures range from 700 to 800 °C.
Common Applications for Samarium Cobalt Magnets

Samarium Cobalt (SmCo) magnets have excellent temperature stability while maintaining their magnetic properties in extreme temperature conditions. They are well suited for technical applications where high-performance and magnetic strength is required in very high or low temperature environments. SmCo magnets are widely used in the automotive, aerospace, medical, military, industrial manufacturing, semiconductor, wind, power, oil and energy industry.

Samarium Cobalt Magnet Manufacturing Methods
Sintering is the most common method used for manufacturing SmCo magnets, they can also be manufactured by injection molding and compression bonding.
SmCo Magnet Bonding Applications
SmCo magnets are often assembled into products using "superglues" such as Loctite 325. It's best to avoid placing mechanical stress on this material, and always ensure that bonding surfaces are clean and dry prior to bonding.
Safety Precautions for Samarium Cobalt Magnets
SmCo magnets are hard, very brittle and high in magnetic strength. They can also snap together with great force, and chip or break if dropped or snapped together. Therefore, they require careful handling and packing in order to prevent injuries or damages to the magnets.
