High Temperature Rare-Earth Magnets

Samarium cobalt (SmCo) disc magnets are strong permanent magnets that perform well in high or very low temperature environments. Part of the rare earth magnet family, SmCo magnets have a high resistance to corrosion or demagnetization. Because of their superior magnetic properties, our SmCo magnets are ideal for applications where high-temperature performance is critical, space is a limiting factor and high-magnetic strength is required.

Standard Dimensional Tolerances for SmCo Disc Magnets

Standard diameter tolerances for Rare Earth Magnets (SmCo & NdFeB) based on the following dimensions:

  • +/- 0.004” on dimensions ranging from 0.040” to 1.000”.
  • +/- 0.008” on dimensions ranging from 1.001” to 2.000”.
  • +/- 0.012” on dimensions ranging from 2.001” to 3.000”.

*Tolerance on thickness is +/-0.004” regardless of size.

SmCo Magnet Approximate Pull Info

The approximate pull info listed for SmCo disc magnets are for reference only. These values are calculated under the assumption that the magnet will be attached to a flat, ground 1/2" thick mild steel plate. coatings, rust, rough surfaces, and certain environmental conditions can significantly reduce the pull force. Please be sure to test the actual pull in your actual application. For critical applications, it is suggested that the pull be de-rated by a factor of 2 or more, depending on the severity of a potential failure.

Safety Precautions for Samarium Cobalt Magnets

SmCo magnets are hard, very brittle and high in magnetic strength. They can also snap together with great force, and chip or break if dropped. Therefore, they require careful handling and packing in order to prevent injuries or damages to the magnets.
